After 12 days, I finally was able to visit Mom. The one thing obvious to me was that she was more alert with her eyes and able to focus when being spoken to. She's doesn't focus like you or I can when being spoken to but alot better than 12 days ago. She did not respond to commands like wriggle your toes or fingers. She may have understood the command and thought she was moving them but her brain may not be able to effectively tell the toes or fingers to move. We just don't know right now. We may not for months or more.
She goes for about 5-6 hrs off the ventilator completely and then put back on to have her rest. This has been going on for about 5 days or so. There is movement of extremities but it's responding to discomfort or just stretching. Mom does enjoy being read to because her blood pressure dropped by 9 and rose again when I left as I viewed the monitor in the hallway when leaving. Summary and comments of chapter 2 of "The Purpose Driven Life" will be posted tomorrow hopefully.
Our main concerns for the short term: Getting off the ventilator completely, low blood pressure and her having a positive attitude and hope now that she is more aware of things and possibly her situation, perserverance for those praying for Mom daily.
Long term concerns: Being able to use her motor skills and being placed at a rehab center in the Syracuse area near by.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. Mom continues to have impact in people's lives. Today, two nurses commented on how much they enjoy her CDs and praise tapes. They had never heard contemporary Christian music before I think. They commented on how it's different but very enjoyable to listen to looking forward to coming in and looking in on Mom.
