medical updates

As of now, 6pm, Mom has been off the ventilator for 130 hrs!!!! She is still coughing up flem from the pneumonia that creates havoc for her breathing but she is coughing it up on her own instead of the nurses having to suction it out. Please pray that the pneumonia would pass for this is the one thing that hinders Mom's progress that could put her back on the ventilator.

Other good news is her blood pressure. It has steadily been at acceptable to good levels for about 5 days straight now. They have been lifting Mom with this harness into a recliner the past 3-4 days for about 3-5 hrs at a time.

There is more movement with her legs, feet and especially the right arm. Most of this is involuntary where synapses are firing between nerve tissue. With rehab, some of this might be able to be controlled and / or coordinated. We are continuing to try to get her accepted into a brain rehab center hopefully late this week.

Mom continues to respond to commands, tracking with the eyes, making eye contact and an occasional facial expression smiling or tears.

Prayer for the pneumonia, being ventilator free, responsiveness and a opening at a rehab center.

My family thanks you all for your continued prayers and concerns. Please continue to pray for family members as the Spirit leads.

Praises to the Lord for His faithfulness. What wonderful news. How good that she can get out of bed via the Hoyer lift. This is so good for her. We will continue in vigilant prayer for her, and for all of you too. God bless that fighting spirit of your Mom's.

Shawn,
How wonderful that she's remained off the respirator this long. I will continue to pray for her recovery and for all of you!

Shawn, the effect of your willingness to share so openly about what you see God doing in your lives, especially as He works wonders in Connie's life, has such a powerful effect. Tears poured down my face as I read your 1-29-04 submission (even though I already knew the essence of it from Dave Ball). Your constant call to all of us to give God the glory and to marvel, with you, at what He's doing is a gift in itself. Thank you. I know this gets posted for anyone to read, but nonetheless, I needed to express my gratitude to you. What a witness to the God of the universe caring about one woman, one family, one little community, all the people we share it with.....oh, yeah, I get it....that's what witnessing is all about...what the church is all about
