Mom has had a good week in rehab in that she has endured it's rigors and shown a willingness for the most part to embrace what they are doing there. The good news is that she will remain at this rehab center in Syracuse and not have to go to a less aggressive rehab center in Albany.
The one thing I have noticed this week is Mom's overall awareness of people and eye contact with them. The statement, "the eye is the gateway into the soul", has never had more profound to me then when I look at Mom now. There is so much there she is communicating but can't verbally. Instead, the only outward signs of communication are when she grimmizes with pain, her forhead rippling saying please don't leave as she sees one putting on their coat, or tears when a tender moment is being expressed and there is joy in her heart. Her eyes though are sharing more of what she is feeling and wanting to communicate.
She looks more comfortable in her neck brace not looking so stiff but more relaxed. Her left wrist and shoulder continue to be very sensitive to any kind of movement. A cat scan was done this week to take snapshot of her bones healing. There is some concern that intervention on the left wrist may be necessary if therapy does not show any progress with flexibility and the ability for her to extend her fingers out straight. I told the nurses to wheel her up to the piano for this might provide some motivation.
Please pray that Mom's endurance would increase and against anything that would be a set back or hinderance in her recovery. Please continue to pray for family and friends as they themselves continue to endure and adjust to the reality of Mom's condition. The cumulative void of Mom in people's lives(family or not) has shown a greater appreciation of how God has used this individual in building His Kingdom. "For the anxious longing of the creation eagerly awaits for the revealing of the sons(and daughters) of God" (Rom 8:19) It's obvious when the creation loses(to a degree) a kingdom son or daughter...one who continually discovers their purpose and destiny through a relationship with the Father and walks in obedience to the Father's will.
