medical updates

Mom has been moved to a secure ICU unit. There was an infection from her pic line a few days ago and a suspected blockage in the esophagus or intentine. X-rays were taken that has ruled out the blockage for now. Mom is having problems with breathing and has been put back on a ventilator to stabilize her. It has also been detected that she has a blood infection. The breathing problems could be contributed to the infections, pnemonia, swallowing issues or all of the above. More news will follow as we can confirm things.

Mom has made several steps forward. This is just a reminder at how fragile her health remains.

shawn and family,
we have been reading your updates daily and have been praying for your Mom as well. to offer you encouragement let me tell you this story. although my mom's situation was not as critical as connie's, she, too, spent many weeks on a ventilator almost two years ago. we spent much time not knowing what was going to happen. finally, she was weaned only to have to go back on for a while. she, too, developed a blood infection which set her back a few steps. I can remember looking at her and wondering what kept her going she was so sick. Little by little she got stronger and last week we were shopping together. There is something about women of that generation ( she is just a little older than Connie). They are survivors. They are strong. Connie has so much to get better for and that is what is pushing her to fight so hard. The Fabius Skeele's think of you all each day. Please call if you need anything at all.

P.S. Keep working on those crosswords. I spent hours doing them with my Mom and I swear they helped to bring her sharpness back.

Shawn,
I can only imagine how scary this setback is for all of you! I continue to pray for Connie and all of you. I will pray that this is only a temporary and SHORT setback and that she gets past this and back to her rehab.
