It has been confirmed that there was some heart failure Monday morning when Mom was rushed to ICU. There are several factors that could have attributed to this condition or a combination there of: infection, age, heart muscle, heart valve(s), fluid in the lungs from the pneumonia or asphyxiation from the swallowing of fluids going down the wrong pipe.
What ever the reason, we are back to early december 03 status where you don't take each day for granted. (not that we should anyways) Mom is starting to come off some of the medication to knock her out moving her eyes and extremities some. As she comes too, we will know more if there was any damage done regarding lack of oxygen and blood to the brain. More test results will be forthcoming tonight and tomorrow also.
What we know for sure is that Mom's heart capacity to pump blood and oxygen is about 1/2 of what is should be. She is on the ventilator and medicated to help in the pumping of the blood and oxygen. Until we know what caused the heart failure, we won't know the condition and future capability of the heart. If it's the fluid in the lungs and infection, those can be dealt with easier then the other options that would require surgical intervention that Mom physically may or may not be able to endure.
Pray for the removal of the infections and fluid in the lungs. Pray for wisdom and discernment for Mom's nurse tonight, Lisa.
May God's peace rest upon you.
